The popular open-source e-book management tool, Calibre, has just released version 8.14, with the update’s highlight being an enhanced Tolino driver support, ensuring full compatibility with the latest Tolino firmware.
At the same time, Calibre 8.14 introduces smarter language completions. When users type within language fields, the software now displays all languages containing the typed string, not just those that start with it.
Additionally, when using substring match mode, Calibre now orders results based on how closely the match appears to the start of the query, improving accuracy and workflow speed.
A convenient new keyboard shortcut—Ctrl + Alt + Shift + P—has also been added to quickly switch back to the previously applied Virtual Library. This feature streamlines navigation for users managing multiple virtual collections, reducing repetitive steps and enhancing overall usability.

Calibre 8.14 also includes several important fixes, most notably addressing a remote code execution vulnerability in FB2 input that maliciously crafted FB2 files could trigger. This patch significantly improves user security when handling third-party e-book formats. Other fixes include:
- E-book viewer: Soft hyphens are now ignored when performing word lookups, ensuring more accurate search results.
- Catalog export: The BibTeX format export now correctly includes language data.
- Windows integration: The “Open With” option has been restored to work properly with Microsoft Paint.
Lastly, the release also updates several built-in news sources, ensuring smoother retrieval and formatting for users who automatically download articles and periodicals. The refreshed list includes:
- The Atlantic
- Harper’s Magazine
- Afrique 21
- Orient XXI
