Calibre 7.26 Update Brings Enhanced Web Search, Metadata Fixes

Calibre 7.26 ebook manager released with enhanced book details, better metadata editing, bug fixes, and more.

Only a week after its previous 7.25 release, Calibre, the beloved open-source eBook management software, has rolled out version 7.26, offering a blend of fresh features, bug fixes, and noteworthy improvements.

The new release introduces the ability to specify web search links for custom columns. In more practical terms, when you click on item names in the Book details panel, you can now determine exactly where those links lead.

This can be configured through “Preferences” > “Add your own columns,” giving you finer control over how you navigate to external resources relevant to your books.

Additionally, the Content server has received an important tweak. Now, when you click on author names on the book details page, the application behaves similarly to the way it does in Calibre’s main Book details panel, ensuring consistency for users who rely on Calibre across different interfaces.

As always, every new update brings some fixes to improve stability and user experience. In version 7.17, a regression caused several minor hiccups when editing metadata directly in the book list, but these have now been ironed out.

Another patch addresses an issue from the previous release in which Heuristics and TXT input conversions were disrupted, causing headaches for those who frequently convert between different ebook formats.

Furthermore, the ebook viewer’s header and footer text now display correctly, even when using multiple monitors of varying DPI configurations.

Moreover, the new release resolves problems with series mapping rules in the metadata preferences and fixes an error preventing custom category icons from being set.

To round things off, the team also addressed a regression that affected older Kobo devices, ensuring users with vintage e-readers can continue syncing their libraries seamlessly.

Lastly, version 7.26 brings enhanced support for Science Journals and Barrons, enabling users to stay current with academic research and financial news.
