Not only has it rolled out with Fedora, it’s right there on the store. You can’t miss it as it shows up first. It’s also the cheapest option for this model available right now.
As the Fedora team mentioned in the original announcement, it’s coming without any bloat as they said Lenovo “respects our open source principles”. In addition, the only software they will have is from the included repositories, no extra fluff.
While the X1 Carbon is positioned as a business laptop, itโs a consumer-facing one. In other words, this means that sales of the Fedora-powered ThinkPad arenโt restricted to corporations.
Above all, what Lenovo are doing here is just the beginning. We also know from what’s already been said, to expect Fedora Linux to be rolled out to the ThinkPad P1 Gen2 and ThinkPad P53.
In conclusion, this is the first time that a mainstream big PC vendor has prominently made Linux an option for their PCs. In addition, Lenovo is directly working with the Linux distribution (Fedora) to better support it. The fact that Lenovo is listing it right next to the regular Windows variant, pricing it comparably (actually somewhat cheaper) with similar specs shows willingness to sell it to all their customers and support it.
