The Trinity Desktop Environment team has announced the release of R14.1.7, the seventh maintenance update in the R14.1.x series of its lightweight, traditional desktop environment that continues the KDE 3.5 desktop experience.
According to the developers, this may be the largest maintenance release so far, introducing improvements across core desktop components, applications, and compatibility with modern libraries.
One of the main highlights is the updated Konsole terminal emulator, which now supports bracketed paste mode. This changes how pasted commands are handled, allowing multiline text to be inserted without immediately executing each line. Pasted text waits for the user to press Enter.
Konsole also gains SGR 1006 mouse reporting, fixing mouse interaction issues in terminal applications such as htop, along with support for colored underlines and new Select All and Paste Selection actions.

The Kicker panel and taskbar receive several usability enhancements. Users can scroll through taskbar entries using the mouse wheel, while grouped windows gain new Raise All and Lower All actions. The Kickoff application menu adds keyboard navigation for search results, and users can customize the menu button’s text color.
Moreover, the Twin window manager improves handling of window borders and multi-monitor configurations. User-defined no-border settings can override window defaults, and the Laptop window decoration gains buttons for keeping windows above or below others. Screen index validation and Xinerama handling have been refined.
Several bundled applications benefit from the update. The KPDF document viewer adds AES-256 decryption support, while KuickShow switches from imlib1 to imlib2, improving image resizing and reducing distortion when zooming. The Ark archive manager gains a 7-Zip fallback for extracting RAR archives, plus fixes for TAR archives, RAR 7 listings, and archive format selection.
Other improvements include enhanced file renaming in Konqueror’s icon view, a new category navigation dock in KCharSelect, and lzip support across desktop libraries and the Krusader file manager. The file chooser portal preserves filenames when saving files, and KMix gains an option to restore volume levels after restarting.
On the stability side, Trinity R14.1.7 addresses several notable issues, including a D-Bus-related issue that could cause 100% CPU usage and excessive memory consumption when processing large /proc/cpuinfo files from lxcfs. Fixes also address crashes in Kopete, KSim, Kate, and the aRts sound server, along with problems affecting Konsole scrolling and desktop menus after resuming from suspend.
Compatibility with newer software libraries has been expanded as well. The release adds support for OpenSSL 4, Python 3.15, libical 4, libpqxx 8, and Poppler 26.06, while raising the minimum supported OpenSSL version to 1.1. On the build system side, Kipi-plugins has been converted to CMake, and Autotools support has been dropped for Krusader and KVIrc.
Finally, distribution compatibility has been updated. Trinity now adds support for Fedora 44, Mageia 10, and Ubuntu 26.10, while dropping Fedora 42, Mageia 9, Ubuntu Oracular, and openSUSE 15.6.
