The KDE Project released Plasma 6.8.2, the second maintenance update in its 6.8 desktop environment series, just one week after the 6.8.1 release.
Many changes concern KWin, KDE’s window manager and Wayland compositor. The update fixes synchronization problems with EGL copies on multi-GPU systems, improves buffer type detection, and addresses issues with direct scanout and DRM color pipeline handling.
Additional KWin fixes address pointer constraints under Wayland, picture-in-picture window stacking, and startup feedback icon sizing. The compositor now preserves an application’s keyboard layout after its last window closes, while Sticky Keys receives a correction to how modifier keys are latched and locked.
On the desktop side, Plasma 6.8.2 fixes an issue that could cause desktop icons to disappear. The Task Manager receives corrections for window highlighting and label wrapping, and the Kickoff application launcher gets improvements to list scrolling and sidebar spacing.
The virtual desktop Pager also receives fixes for desktop labels and window icons, and the Activity Switcher has its sizing and positioning corrected.
Wallpaper handling also gets several fixes. Animated images work again as tiled wallpapers, Activity wallpapers are now cropped rather than stretched, and image wallpaper packages that previously failed to load should work correctly. The update also addresses accent color selection when using a solid-color wallpaper.
Remote desktop users get fixes in KRDP, including improved session initialization and correct handling of the desktop size requested by the client. KDE’s PipeWire integration also receives corrections for video encoding frame rates and requested stream dimensions.
Other changes include improvements to audio volume feedback, which now uses sounds from the configured sound theme, and a fix for uneven window decoration buttons in the Oxygen theme at some fractional scaling factors.
Moreover, Discover receives fixes for firmware update handling and resources disappearing during update operations. PowerDevil addresses a battery monitor switch state issue. Plasma Workspace also includes corrections for notifications, application launcher tasks, global media shortcuts, and calendar navigation.

KDE Plasma 6.8.2 will become available through the software repositories of rolling-release Linux distributions as their maintainers package the update. Users of distributions with fixed release schedules will receive it according to their respective update policies.
