Raspberry Pi has released Raspberry Pi Imager 2.0.12, a maintenance update to its popular utility for writing operating system images to SD cards and other storage devices.
One important fix in the new version concerns image writing. Previously, canceling an operation during customization could incorrectly display a success message even when the target device was only partially written. The application now reports the cancellation correctly.
Moreover, Imager can now detect incomplete downloads and truncated compressed images, preventing users from unknowingly writing incomplete operating system images to their storage devices. Error handling during failed writes and final disk operations has also improved.
Another change addresses WPA3 wireless networks. Previously, Imager stored a derived Wi-Fi key that could not be used for WPA3/SAE authentication, causing failed connections or fallback to WPA2. The new version now stores the actual passphrase, resolving the issue. It also fixes problems with passwords containing backslashes or leading spaces.
The Raspberry Pi network installer also receives several improvements. It now detects network connections that become available after startup, waits for a valid DHCP address before downloading the operating system list, and retries failed initial downloads after 30 seconds.
The installer also handles incorrect system clocks that could previously cause HTTPS certificate validation failures on Raspberry Pi boards booting without a configured real-time clock.
For remote access, the embedded installer now supports signing in to Raspberry Pi Connect using a QR code and a short authorization code from another device. Users can also import SSH public keys directly from GitHub by entering their username.
Linux users benefit from fixes to asynchronous disk writing through io_uring, improved partition detection after formatting, and better AppImage compatibility. The application now uses Qt 6.11.2, including a fix for a fontconfig-related crash affecting the AppImage on some Linux systems.
Additional AppImage packaging changes include bundled XCB helper libraries and removal of an outdated libfuse2 dependency.
Security has also received attention, especially when Imager runs with elevated privileges. The update improves file ownership handling, prevents certain symbolic-link-related problems, and introduces stricter validation of input data and disk structures.
Lastly, the release improves Compute Module flashing reliability, correctly identifies internal eMMC storage instead of labeling it as an SD card reader, and addresses several interface and localization issues, including Brazilian Portuguese and Traditional Chinese translations.
Raspberry Pi Imager 2.0.12 is available for download on the project’s official GitHub releases page, where you can also find the full changelog and platform-specific installation packages.
