NVIDIA has released Linux graphics driver 595.99, an update to its Production Branch focusing almost entirely on bug fixes, including display corruption on Blackwell GPUs, black screens when switching consoles, and compatibility with Linux kernel 7.0 and newer.
The most notable fix in version 595.99 concerns NVIDIA’s Blackwell GPU architecture. The company corrected an issue that could cause display corruption when output scaling was enabled on affected GPUs.
The driver also fixes a problem where resuming from suspend could fail if the machine had previously entered hibernation. According to NVIDIA, the issue was related to the driver’s open GPU kernel modules.
Another display-related bug could result in a black screen when switching between Linux virtual consoles. That problem has now been addressed as well.
Lastly, NVIDIA 595.99 brings a compatibility fix for Linux kernel 7.0 and newer on systems where DRM fbdev support is disabled.
As usual, NVIDIA recommends that Linux users first check whether their distribution provides the driver through its own package repositories, noting that distribution-native packages may integrate better with the rest of the operating system.
