Omarchy, a preconfigured Arch Linux setup packaged as a distro that ships with a Hyprland tiling window manager and a curated set of defaults and developer tools, has announced the release of version 3.8.
A key addition is the built-in reminder system. Users can create countdown-based reminders with a message using Super + Ctrl + R, view active reminders with Super + Ctrl + Alt + R, and clear them with Super + Ctrl + Shift + R. These functions are also accessible via Trigger > Reminder and the command line.
Omarchy 3.8 also adds live weather support in Waybar, using wttr.in as the backend. Weather information is displayed with glyphs that reflect day and night based on local sunrise and sunset times. A detailed weather notification is available with Super + Ctrl + Alt + W.
Moreover, default application management is now more accessible. The new Setup > Default menu allows users to select the system-wide browser, terminal, and editor. Install > Browser enables installation and default selection of Chrome, Brave, Brave Origin, Firefox, or Zen directly from the Omarchy menu.
It’s worth also noting that the Foot terminal app is now available as an installable terminal option, featuring Omarchy defaults and live theme support.
The update introduces a new transcoding workflow, accessible via Trigger > Transcode, the Super + Ctrl + . shortcut, or the omarchy transcode command. It supports video, audio, and GIF transcoding, and a transcode option is now available in the file manager’s right-click menu.
The installer has been updated with an option to install without disk encryption via the ISO. Visually, the release introduces an ASCII-logo screensaver and about-screen generation from any image.
Additional updates include corrected Catppuccin theme naming, improved theme refresh behavior to preserve the selected background image, fixed relative wallpaper paths before creating background symlinks, disabled rounding in no-gaps mode, and enhanced Helix theme legibility.
