Komodo 2.0 Build and Deploy Tool Adds Docker Swarm Support

Komodo 2.0 adds Docker Swarm management, introduces PKI-based authentication, and updates its UI with improved terminal features.

Komodo, a self-hosted tool to build and deploy containers across many servers, similar to what Portainer does, but with extra CI features and solid GitHub integration, recently released version 2.0.

The most significant update is Docker Swarm support. Komodo can now manage Swarm clusters, including nodes, services, stacks, configs, and secrets, expanding its orchestration capabilities.

In addition, with outbound periphery support, the Periphery service can now initiate connections to Komodo Core, eliminating the need for inbound connectivity in some deployment scenarios.

Authentication has been redesigned as well. Komodo 2.0 replaces passkeys with PKI-based authentication between Core and Periphery, using automatically generated key pairs with built-in rotation. Onboarding keys have also been introduced to simplify server enrollment, allowing reusable credentials during setup.

User authentication features have been expanded to include built-in two-factor authentication via TOTP for username and password logins. It also introduces multi-login linking, allowing users to associate multiple authentication providers, including local accounts, OIDC, and GitHub, with a single profile.

Regarding the interface, Komodo 2.0 features a redesigned UI with improved contrast and updated core components. Terminal functionality has been enhanced, including updates to the terminal dashboard, improvements to the km ssh tool, and refinements to action scripting.

Moreover, the project now offers full OpenAPI documentation with interactive API exploration for developers.

Last but not least, keep in mind that this version includes a breaking change in its container distribution. Docker images are now published only with versioned :2 tags, and the :latest tag has been deprecated.

For more information, see the changelog. Komodo 2.0 is now available, with an upgrade guide for users migrating from earlier versions.
