Plasma 6.6 will be released next week on Tuesday, February 17. Meanwhile, KDE developers are actively working on version 6.7, with initial details about its planned features now available.
System Settings have been reorganized by moving the “Remote Desktop” page to the “Security & Privacy” section, and the Disks & Devices widget now handles loop devices more effectively, ensuring mounted images behave consistently.
Wallpaper previews showing both light and dark variants now render with less visual jagginess in the split preview effect. Additionally, the Kicker Application Menu now supports non-square panel icons, matching the flexibility already available in Kickoff.
Moreover, a new global action in window management allows users to untile a quick-tiled window. While it does not have a default keyboard shortcut, users can assign one manually. Plasma 6.7 also adds a configurable delay for the window switcher, enabling users to set how long Alt+Tab must be held before the interface appears.
Regarding login experience, videos used in SDDM themes can now be previewed directly from System Settings, plus KWin dialogs have also been visually improved.
Finally, a KWin issue that caused scrollable views created by the compositor to operate at reduced speed has been resolved.
Although the bug affected only a limited number of views, its resolution restores expected responsiveness and supports future enhancements. Notably, it enables the development of a scroll-to-switch virtual desktops feature in the Overview effect.
