Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.1 and 20.04 OTA-11 Bring VoLTE Expansion

UBports releases Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.1 and OTA-11 with key fixes for notifications, media scanning, Wi-Fi hotspot issues, and security.

The UBports team has officially released Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.1 and Ubuntu Touch 20.04 OTA-11 as maintenance updates for supported devices.

The 24.04-1.1 update expands VoLTE support to additional hardware, including Fairphone 4 and the remaining Volla Phone 22 variants. Startup performance has been improved for users upgrading from the 20.04 series, reducing the first-boot delay.

Several long-standing issues have also been resolved, such as the media scanning daemon getting stuck at 100% CPU, notification badges not appearing for Phone and Messaging apps, and applications being unable to clear old notifications before posting new ones.

Crashes affecting apps using embedded web views, issues with deleted Wi-Fi or VPN profiles reappearing after reboot, and Messaging app crashes when opening attached media have also been addressed.

At the same time, Ubuntu Touch 20.04 OTA-11 delivers its own batch of corrections. VoLTE support is being expanded in parallel with the 24.04 branch, and USB-C headset functionality is now enabled for users on the 20.04 series. A fix for audio playback failing to stop automatically when a Bluetooth headset disconnects improves audio handling on affected devices.

Additional changes across telephony, media, and device configuration components strengthen stability for users who remain on 20.04.

Both updates include improvements across core components such as lomiri, lxc-android-config, pulseaudio-modules-droid, and various service integrations. Many of these changes focus on addressing edge-case crashes, correcting device behavior under unusual conditions, and improving compatibility across devices with differing Android bases.

For existing users, the updates are delivered through the system’s built-in updater. Devices running Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.0 will receive 24.04-1.1, while devices on 20.04 OTA-10 will receive OTA-11. The rollout is randomized to allow UBports to halt distribution quickly if needed.

Users who prefer to force an immediate update can enable ADB access and run the system-image-cli tool to trigger an upgrade. Devices on 20.04 can also move to 24.04-1.1 after installing OTA-11. New users can install Ubuntu Touch by following the device-specific instructions available at devices.ubuntu-touch.io.
