Calibre 8.13 Released with Virtual Library Improvements

Calibre 8.13 e-book manager improves Virtual Libraries with multi-line editing, fixes Linux export issues, and resolves several long-standing bugs.

The popular open-source e-book management tool, Calibre, has just released version 8.13, with the highlight of this update being a more convenient way to define search expressions in Virtual Libraries.

Instead of typing everything into a single line, you can now use a multi-line edit box, which makes handling complex searches far more comfortable.

On Windows, Calibre now launches external programs via the native Windows API. This change helps decouple those actions from the Calibre environment, improving reliability when opening files or using “Open with.”

Moreover, a few notable bugs were also addressed. The ebooks.com plugin has been fixed, and an issue with CALIBRE_OVERRIDE_DATABASE_PATH not working correctly in calibre-server has been resolved.

On Linux, exporting libraries no longer breaks when /tmp is mounted in RAM. Additionally, a regression introduced in version 8.11 that caused errors when trying to open a book from full-text search results while the search was still running has now been fixed.

Lastly, this release also includes updated news source integrations for Todoist and NZZ.

Check out the changelog for more details and the complete list of novelties in the Calibre 8.13 open-source e-book management tool. The update is already live for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
