KDE Plasma 6.4.4 Desktop Environment Released

KDE Plasma 6.4.4 fixes crashes in KWin, improves System Monitor behavior, and refines Flatpak handling in Discover.

Over three weeks after Plasma 6.4.3 was released, the KDE team rolled out version 6.4.4 as the fourth bugfix update to the 6.4 series.

This release is all about polish and reliability, addressing some crash fixes and UI quirks. Some of the standout fixes include:

  • Notifications triggered during Do Not Disturb mode now correctly stay in history instead of vanishing.
  • KWin (Plasma’s window manager) now properly sets the initial zoom level for the magnifier plugin, so no more awkward first-time scaling issues.
  • System Monitor’s network plugin no longer jumps the gun by announcing data for processes that aren’t fully loaded yet.

Under the hood, the more noticeable improvements include:

  • Discover, KDE’s software center, now handles Flatpak remote ordering more reliably and stops showing outdated beta app messages where they don’t belong.
  • KWin’s accessibility features got a boost, ensuring screen readers properly receive modifier key presses.
  • The Plasma Desktop folder view saw multiple fixes, including better drag-and-drop behavior on scrollable desktops and more stable panel widget editing for right-to-left languages.

As always, if you’re using a rolling release distro, keep an eye on your distribution’s repositories—version 6.4.4 is expected to land there in the coming days or weeks.
