Immich Hits Milestone with 40,000 Stars on GitHub

Immich, a self-hosted photos and videos backup solution, celebrates 40K stars with v1.110, which brings self-hosted maps and revised purchase terms.

Immich, an open-sourceย self-hosted photo and video backup solution, has captured many users’ hearts worldwide and recently celebrated a remarkable achievement: reaching 40,000 stars on GitHub. For reference, in April 2022, the number was just 1,000.

To celebrate this achievement, developers rolled out a new version, 1.110, which brings several noteworthy updates and features to improve user experience and expand functionality.

Whatโ€™s New in Immich v1.110

Immich-Hosted Map Tiles: Transitioning from third-party providers, Immich now hosts its own map tiles at https://tiles.immich.cloud.

This shift promises enhanced performance and reduced dependency on external services, ensuring a more integrated and speedy experience for users navigating maps in light or dark mode.

Revised Purchase Mechanisms: The wording related to how users can purchase Immich has been updated in response to community feedback.

Humorously dubbed “The-Words-Which-Must-Not-Be-Named,” these changes include a clearer, more user-friendly approach to buying options and licensing.

For instance, a new “Buy” button will appear once an account is older than 14 days, with additional settings to hide this button temporarily or indefinitely.

Just a quick note: In the earlier version, 1.109, Immich added an option for users to buy a license to support the project. At the same time, the software’s functionality is not limited in any way, whether or not you have a license.

Supporter Recognition: Immich has introduced a product key-claiming mechanism via a dedicated website to acknowledge past financial donors’ contributions. Moreover, supporters can now flaunt a shiny new supporter badge in their profiles, which can be hidden if preferred.

Enhanced Security with TLS Client Certificates: In Immich 1.110, users can now add custom TLS certificates to the mobile app, enhancing security for those with specific network configurations.

Machine Learning and More: The update also improves machine learning capabilities, especially for ARM-NN and OpenVINO support, ensuring broader compatibility and faster performance across various hardware.

Theย announcementย provides detailed information about all the novelties and improvements that Immich 1.110 brings.
