ONLYOFFICE Docs 9.1 Introduces Powerful PDF Redaction, New Annotations

ONLYOFFICE Docs 9.1 delivers 4× faster spreadsheet formulas and advanced tools for PDF redaction and editing.

ONLYOFFICE Docs 9.1, an open-source and self-hosted office suite for documents, spreadsheets, presentations, fillable forms, PDFs, and diagrams, has officially landed.

The new release packs over a dozen new features, performance improvements, and fixes for more than 500 bugs. The standout change is the much more capable PDF Editor, which now includes a Redact feature to remove sensitive information permanently and an upgraded set of annotation tools for drawing shapes and notes directly on documents.

PDF editing also gets smarter—users can now insert charts and SmartArt graphics, enabling them to create visually rich, data-driven PDFs without leaving the editor. Spreadsheet users aren’t left out either.

On top of that, ONLYOFFICE 9.1 boosts formula performance, with LOOKUP, VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, and XLOOKUP functions running up to four times faster than before. Plus, text direction can now be switched between left-to-right and right-to-left, and pivot tables finally support date filters for easier time-based data analysis.

Several smaller improvements were also made. The new Table Design tab centralizes formatting options, while arguments in formulas are now highlighted as you type, helping prevent errors. Sheets can be renamed instantly with a double-click, and content controls like combo boxes and spin buttons can now be viewed directly in spreadsheets, adding a layer of interactivity.

Beyond spreadsheets and PDFs, other editors see their share of updates, too. The Presentation Editor gets a dedicated Slide Master tab for easier layout management, and the Document Editor now supports section breaks inside nested content controls. A full-featured chart editor has also been introduced, allowing charts embedded from XLSX files to be opened and modified directly.

File format support expands further, with compatibility for HEIF images, HWPML documents, and new conversions, such as PDF to TXT and PPTX to TXT. MathML formulas can now be inserted natively, rounding out the update’s focus on flexibility. For admins, a new server-side Admin Panel simplifies monitoring server status and configuration.

Finally, on the localization front, ONLYOFFICE Docs 9.1 adds translations for formulas in Serbian (both Latin and Cyrillic) and Traditional Chinese.

ONLYOFFICE Desktop suite is available for download in multiple installation formats for Windows, macOS, and Linux (DEB, RPM, Flatpak, Snap, AppImage), as well as for Android and iOS via the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
