DietPi, a lightweight Debian-based Linux distribution for SBCs (such as Raspberry Pi) and server systems with the option to install desktop environments, has just unveiled its latest iteration, version 9.11.
One of the central highlights of this update is introducing support for the recently released Pi-hole 6, allowing DietPi users to take full advantage of an advanced network-wide ad-blocking experience right out of the gate.
The new version refines the tool’s internal webserver and PHP interpreter. Notably, if you already have a separate web server or PHP running without any other DietPi software dependencies, the DietPi update routine will offer to remove those extra installations to avoid redundancy.
In addition to the Pi-hole upgrade, DietPi 9.11 addresses several notable bugs reported by the community. For example, an issue was resolved where importing config files from the setup FAT partition could fail on the first boot, affecting root filesystem expansion.
Another fix guarantees that the automated first-run setup will not halt if the network adapter, wpa_supplicant, or DHCP client is delayed in obtaining an IP address. Specifically, when “AUTO_SETUP_AUTOMATED=1” is enabled in “dietpi.txt,” the network check retries at least four times with short intervals in between, offering greater reliability under varied network conditions.
On Raspberry Pi devices, choosing the linux-image-rpi-v8 kernel on 32-bit images was previously failing. Now, it is fixed, and Raspberry Pi users can reliably select their preferred kernel configuration.
Finally, users also reported issues with Fail2Ban installs failing due to Dropbear filter downloads. The updated installation process now resolves this interruption and ensures a stable security setup. Of course, as with every new release, the developers also have rolled out various performance, stability, and visual improvements.
