Calibre 7.25 Released: Custom Icons, Kindle KFX Support, and More

The latest Calibre 7.25 update adds custom tab icons, KFX support for 2024 Kindles, and new tweaks for transliteration and book details.

Less than a month after its previous 7.24 release, Calibre, the beloved open-source eBook management software, has rolled out version 7.25, packed with handy enhancements.

One of the most eye-catching changes is the option to set custom icons for items in the Tab browser. Users can now effortlessly right-click on the desired item, select “Manage icon for this value,” and assign a unique icon that best suits their organizational style.

In addition, Kindle users will be pleased to learn that this update supports importing KFX files from 2024 Kindle models that rely on the MTP protocol, making it easier than ever to manage new-generation e-readers via Calibre.

Another noteworthy improvement is the new tweak within “Preferences” > “Tweaks,” which grants users more control over the East Asian language used when transliterating to English. This addition could be especially beneficial for bilingual researchers, academics working with multilingual datasets, or readers wanting accurate transliterations.

Moreover, Calibre now includes an option to resize links and note icons in the Book details section. Located under “Preferences” > “Look & feel” > “Book details,” this setting makes for a cleaner and more tailored reading experience.

Of course, no update would be complete without some essential bug fixes. For instance, Nook enthusiasts will be happy to know that the Glowlight 4 now works seamlessly on Windows. The MTP driver has also been patched to address a quirky firmware bug on certain devices, where the SD card would sometimes appear as internal storage.

Additionally, the Template dialog now properly respects any tweaks for titles and series when editing save-to-disk and send-to-device templates. Even the Content server received a polish: icons for individual formats now appear correctly in the Tag browser, making it more convenient to browse large libraries.

Lastly, the app includes an expanded roster of news sources from various contributors. Check out the changelog for more details and the complete list of novelties in the Calibre 7.25 open-source ebook management tool.
