Only a week after its previous September update, the Arch-based CachyOS has rolled out its 11th update of the year, primarily focusing on fixes and stability improvements.
A significant fix in this release addresses an issue that prevented users with RDNA3 and AMD iGPUs from initiating a graphical session from the ISO. This problem has now been resolved with the inclusion of the xf86-video-amdgpu package.
Moreover, the release includes crucial fixes for the SDDM Wayland session for KDE, enhancing compatibility and smoothing the user experience in anticipation of the upcoming Plasma 6.2 release.
Additionally, CachyOS has improved its hardware detection capabilities, which now support reinstalling profiles. This is particularly beneficial for users upgrading their hardware or needing to reinstall driver packages.
CachyOS October’s release also brings updates to several key packages which receive the latest in security, stability, and performance:
- Linux Kernel updated to version 6.11.1
- Mesa is now at version 24.2.4
- SCX-Scheds upgraded to version 1.0.5
- Python updated to version 3.12.7
For users currently utilizing legacy NVIDIA drivers (470xx and 390xx), it is recommended to remove the cachyos-kde-settings package to ensure compatibility with Wayland. This can be accomplished with a simple command: sudo pacman -R cachyos-kde-settings.
