Kdenlive 26.08.3 Video Editor Released with Project Recovery, Crash Fixes

Kdenlive 26.08.3 improves project recovery, fixes crashes, and addresses issues with rendering, keyframes, and audio scopes.

The KDE project has released Kdenlive 26.08.3, the third and final maintenance update in the 26.08 series of its free and open-source video editor.

One of the most important improvements concerns project recovery. The update fixes issues recovering corrupted project files and ensures autosave files are preserved if saving a project fails. It also improves handling of archived projects by avoiding unnecessary file rewrites and preventing symbolic links from being used as archived projects.

Several crash fixes are included as well. Kdenlive 26.08.3 resolves crashes involving nonlinear fades, pasting clips with source files that cannot be loaded, and generating proxies for sub-bin clips. It also fixes potential crashes when creating new projects, canceling recently completed tasks, and deleting clips.

Audio scopes receive fixes for crashes in the RGB Parade and Waveform displays when their windows are very small. Another fix prevents the interface from freezing when switching clips while the audio scopes refresh. The update also addresses an out-of-bounds write in the audio scopes’ FFT processing.

Editing improvements include a fix for copying keyframes and better handling of custom effects. Effects with special characters can now be deleted correctly, while renamed custom effects no longer disappear from the favorites list. Additionally, the update improves undo and redo performance by addressing inefficient processing when building operation histories.

On the rendering side, Kdenlive 26.08.3 fixes incorrect low-disk-space warnings when rendering videos longer than 24 minutes. It also corrects rounding problems when entering scaling values in the render dialog, fixes an issue where rescale width was saved as the default height, and resolves a bug that could leave completed rendering jobs incorrectly marked as running.

Other fixes address clip grouping, a thumbnail-related race condition during shutdown, and keyboard shortcuts remaining cached after being changed. The update also restores the expected splash screen size and positioning.

Finally, the release fixes compilation and QML compatibility errors with Qt 6.12, improves automated regression tests, and addresses packaging-related problems. For users on macOS, it resolves a Qt-related startup crash triggered by recent operating system updates.

For more information, see the announcement. Kdenlive 26.08.3 is available from the project’s download page and through distribution package managers.
