KDE Gear 26.08.3 Released with Numerous Application Bug Fixes

KDE's latest Gear 26.08 maintenance update fixes issues affecting video editing, file management, debugging, and desktop integration.

The KDE Project has announced KDE Gear 26.08.3, the third maintenance update to the 26.08 series of its application collection.

One of the applications receiving the most fixes is the Kdenlive video editor. The update addresses crashes related to nonlinear fades, clip pasting, proxy generation, and project creation. It also improves recovery of corrupted project files and ensures autosave files are preserved when saving a project fails.

Additional Kdenlive fixes target rendering, including incorrect scaling values in the render dialog, low disk space warnings, and render jobs incorrectly marked as running. Issues with audio scopes, including freezes and crashes, have also been addressed.

The Kate text editor receives fixes, particularly to its debugging functionality. These address outdated variable information, problems expanding structures and arrays in the locals view, and crashes caused by delayed debugger responses. Other fixes resolve duplicate tabs, crashes when changing tab limits, and issues restoring sidebar layouts.

In KDE Connect, a deadlock in its background daemon has been fixed along with a crash involving the notification listener. Several Windows-specific problems have also been addressed, including crashes in media playback integration, memory handling issues, and incorrect responses when requesting currently playing media information.

The Dolphin file manager fixes an issue where renamed files were not properly refreshed in the file list. Additional changes improve drag-and-drop visuals on high-DPI displays, correct view appearance, and fix problems with custom commands.

Gwenview, KDE’s image viewer, fixes a crash when loading certain FITS images and improves handling of time zone information stored in EXIF metadata. It also adjusts how recently accessed folders are checked for availability.

Other applications also benefit from some smaller corrections. KMail fixes external-content settings in separate message readers and fixes a memory leak. KRFB resolves a problem preventing its VNC listener from starting correctly, while KDE Partition Manager’s underlying library corrects issues with resizing and moving partitions.

KDE Itinerary receives improvements to boarding pass extraction, including support for additional Finnair PDF layouts and corrections involving Lufthansa and LTG Link travel information. Akonadi also fixes a crash involving an unknown tracer and improves special collection handling.

Finally, the release includes smaller fixes for Ark, Elisa, Konsole, Kleopatra, and other applications in the KDE ecosystem.

For more information, see the official announcement or the full changelog. KDE Gear 26.08.3 is available as source code, with updated application packages expected to reach Linux distributions according to their respective release schedules.
