KDE Plasma 6.7.6 Released with KWin Crash Fixes, Desktop Improvements

KDE Plasma 6.7.6 fixes KWin crashes, screen-locking issues, power management bugs, and several desktop stability problems.

Arriving almost two months after the previous update, KDE has announced Plasma 6.7.6, the sixth maintenance update in its 6.7 desktop environment series that debuted in June.

The changes concern mainly KWin, KDE’s window manager and compositor. The update fixes crashes affecting screen recording and screenshot capture, corrects keyboard repeat handling, and addresses several Wayland pointer focus and input issues. It also prevents the task switcher from closing unexpectedly when KWin changes keyboard focus.

Another notable fix addresses a problem where the lock screen would not appear correctly when the “Never require password” option was enabled. Additional KWin changes improve window rendering, handle screencasts associated with disconnected displays, and correct window sizing in the desktop’s overview effects.

Power management also sees several corrections. PowerDevil now handles situations where displays remain dimmed after brightness control is lost. The brightness sliders receive fixes, while devices reporting unknown battery percentages no longer trigger incorrect low-battery warnings.

For users relying on remote desktop functionality, KDE has fixed an authentication issue between KRDP and FreeRDP 3.32. The update also corrects virtual screen initialization and improves how remote input is forwarded through desktop portals.

Plasma Workspace includes fixes for saving and restoring floating panel configurations, navigating clipboard entries using the keyboard, and handling simultaneous logout, restart, or shutdown requests. The notification system also receives corrections related to copy and link actions.

Several desktop widgets have been updated as well. The weather widget no longer crashes when certain forecast files are missing, the comic widget avoids an infinite reload loop, and the timer and calculator widgets receive usability fixes.

Moreover, Discover improves handling of software resources that disappear during updates, while Plasma NetworkManager fixes keyboard focus behavior and configuration layout problems. KDE’s Plasma Login Manager now avoids restarting its greeter during system shutdown.

KDE Plasma 6.7.6 is available as source code, with distribution packages being prepared or already available through their respective repositories. As usual, availability depends on each distribution’s update schedule.
