COSMIC Desktop 1.0.10 Brings New File Manager Actions and Workspace Controls

COSMIC Desktop 1.0.10 adds custom context menu actions in Files, workspace wrapping toggle, and other desktop refinements.

System76 has released COSMIC 1.0.10, a new maintenance update for its Rust-based desktop environment. One of the most notable changes lands in COSMIC Files, which now supports user-defined context menu actions.

The file manager also receives several additional improvements, including a workaround for clipboard data delays, enhanced type-to-select functionality, and a fix for tab titles that were incorrectly appearing bold.

On the workspace side, COSMIC’s compositor now offers a setting to toggle workspace wrapping, providing users with greater control over virtual desktop navigation.

Additionally, COSMIC Applets introduces workspace and configured output filtering to enhance performance in multi-workspace and multi-monitor environments.

COSMIC Text Editor receives several fixes, including closing the application when the last tab is closed, correcting a regression that caused text to be cut, and improving focus handling during project searches. COSMIC App Library addresses sizing issues, and COSMIC Greeter resolves input widget clipping.

Additional updates include COSMIC Session now setting the XDG_SESSION_DESKTOP environment variable, COSMIC Store fetching backends concurrently, and COSMIC Terminal moving its context menu to a Wayland popup surface, along with minor cleanup tasks.

For more information, see the changelog.

COSMIC Desktop 1.0.10 packages are expected to arrive in the repositories of rolling-release distros such as Arch, openSUSE Tumbleweed, CachyOS, and others shortly. Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS users will receive it in the coming days.
