KDE Gear 25.08.1 Apps Collection Rolls Out, Here’s What’s New

KDE Gear 25.08.1 bugfix update improves Dolphin, Gwenview, Kdenlive, and Kate, while fixing crashes and adding updated translations.

Today, over three weeks after the 25.08 apps collection release, the KDE team has rolled out its first maintenance update to this series, KDE Gear 25.08.1, with a focus on ironing out issues and polishing stability.

For example, the Kate text editor fixes an infinite loop in its git blame integration when running inside Flatpak. Kdenlive, a non-linear video editor, has seen multiple crash fixes, addressing issues with project opening, bin clip deletion, and sequence handling.

Meanwhile, Dolphin—KDE’s file manager—gets patches for crashes in selection mode, smoother tab handling, and a fix for double scroll distance.

Other applications also receive attention. KTorrent resolves a long-standing bug that caused constant writes to the magnets file, while Tokodon, KDE’s Mastodon client, fixes problems in the account moderation tools page.

KDE’s lightweight image viewer, Gwenview, addresses video player fade-out glitches and memory handling issues, and Itinerary, a travel assistant app, brings a batch of improvements in handling travel reservations, ticket parsing, and data exports.

Lastly, the release updates translations across the suite, ensuring better internationalization support.

Most KDE Gear 25.08.1 apps will soon be available on Flathub and Snap Store. Rolling release distributions can expect the app collection in their respective distros’ repositories in the coming days and weeks.
