Wine 10.1 Enhances Print Provider and Bluetooth Support

Wine 10.1 Windows compatibility layer released with fixes for Battle.net, print provider upgrades, and Bluetooth driver improvements.

The Wine Project, a compatibility layer renowned for enabling Linux and macOS users to run Windows applications, has officially released version 10.1 as the first maintenance update to the stable 10.x series, introducing a batch of changes previously on hold during the recent code freeze.

Gamers relying on Blizzard’s Battle.net will be pleased to hear about updated root certificates. This is expected to smooth out any security certificate snags and help games like StarCraft and Diablo run more reliably under Wine.

Moreover, if you use Wine for office tasks or design software that needs printing support, you’ll likely see better performance and fewer hiccups when sending documents to your printer. On the Bluetooth side, Wine 10.1 improves connectivity and overall driver reliability.

As always, the new release also tackles various bugs (35 in total) ranging from locale issues (like missing glyphs in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 under Russian settings) to sound problems (StarCraft 2) and from .NET 4.0 compatibility hitches (OpenGL Extensions Viewer 4.x) to crashes in several popular applications (such as Telegram and Reason).

There are also important fixes for software like Paint Tool SAIv2, the iologo launcher, and Final Fantasy XI Online.
