PeaZip 9.9 File Archiver Adds Drag and Drop Features

PeaZip 9.9, a free & open-source file archiver, introduces drag-and-drop extraction, setting the stage for the upcoming 10.x releases.

PeaZip, the free and open-source file archiver utility, has just released version 9.9. This update enhances its predecessors in the 9.x series and prepares the ground for the forthcoming 10.x versions.

The highlight feature of PeaZip 9.9 is the internal drag-and-drop functionality, which allows users to effortlessly extract files from the file browser to any folder displayed in the left sidebar.

This sidebar conveniently includes Bookmarks, History, and a filesystem treeview, making navigation and organization simpler and more intuitive than ever.

Enhancements extend to the file browser itself, which now offers improved User Account Control elevation and password testing capabilities. These features enhance security measures and ensure a smoother user interface interaction.

In addition to these navigational improvements, PeaZip 9.9 has revamped its archive and extraction progress windows by improving the feedback on progress when compressing or decompressing files.

Moreover, a new โ€œquick archive extractionโ€ link has been added to the right side of the toolbar. This feature provides users immediate access to one of the most frequently used functions, streamlining the process and reducing the time it takes to extract files.

Last but not least, the security features in PeaZip 9.9 have also seen significant upgrades, thanks to updates to its backendsโ€”7zip (updated to 24.07), Zstd (updated to 1.5.6), and Pea (updated to 1.19). The latter allows the user to customize the number of Key Derivation Function (KDF) rounds, thus increasing protection against brute-forcing password attacks.
