Lutris, the free and open-source gaming platform for Linux, has released version 0.5.20. Now, Proton-GE launched through Umu is set as the default, and Umu will automatically keep Proton-GE updated.
This update also resolves Proton integration issues, ensuring that Proton fixes are applied correctly. Lutris has removed the VKD3D, D3D Extras, and DXVK-NVAPI options when using Proton, since Proton now manages these components. Settings like “Enable Esync,” “Enable Fsync,” and “DXVK” are now passed to Proton, and DXVK’s built-in D8VK is enabled when using Proton.
The Wine runner now lets users select Wine’s Wayland driver. There is also support for ICDs that target Intel Xe GPUs. Lutris is now compatible with Python 3.14 as well.
Additionally, Lutris 0.5.20 introduces several new sources and runners. The update adds an “Azahar” runner and support for the ZOOM Platform source. The new “Steam Family” source allows integration with Steam Families. The EA App source now uses its updated API, and Itch.io now requires API keys instead of usernames and passwords. If there is no Itch.io collection named “Lutris,” all games will be shown by default.
This release adds more features for emulators. Updated runners are now available for TIC-80, EasyRPG, mGBA, Rosalie’s Mupen GUI, Ruffle, and 86Box. The Ryujinx runner can now set an application ID for multi-game XCIs. Lutris now supports importing Commodore 64 ROMs, and you can configure the emulator BIOS file location for libretro in Preferences. The MAME machine setting now includes a searchable entry to help manage its large list of machines.
Metadata and media handling have also been improved. Lutris can now get the release year from GOG and Itch.io. If Lutris-hosted media is not available, it will use cover art or banners from external sources. Small buttons have been added to the game settings to let users select cover art, banners, and icons via URL. Plus, you can now launch .lutris installer files by double-clicking them.
Finally, the extra “Add Games” menu entry has been removed, and users can now use the plus button in the corner. There is a new option to hide a source’s games from the main Games view. The context menu now includes a “Create Steam Big Picture shortcut” entry, and the “Manual Script” option can access the game’s environment variables.
