Lutris 0.5.19 Brings Better Proton Handling

Lutris 0.5.19 open-source game manager for Linux improves Proton integration, refines DXVK handling, enhances Esync & Fsync settings, and more.

Lutris, a free and open-source gaming platform for Linux, has unveiled its latest version, 0.5.19, with a strong emphasis on enhancing Proton integration.

That said, the platform no longer offers DXVK, VKD3D, D3D Extras, or DDXVK-NVAPI on Proton versions because Proton itself now handles these elements. This change ensures that Proton fixes are successfully applied and prevents any unnecessary overlap in functionality.

Moreover, user-configured options like “Enable Esync” and “Enable Fsync” are now automatically passed on to Proton, so gamers can keep the same performance settings across their entire library.

At the same time, DXVK’s integrated D8VK will be enabled within Proton, further optimizing Direct3D compatibility.

Beyond Proton-specific updates, Lutris 0.5.19 also introduces several convenient features for classic gaming enthusiasts and retro gamers.

First, the emulator BIOS file location that is used by libretro can be manually configured in the Preferences menu, making it easier for users to ensure their emulators are set up correctly.

Second, the MAME Machine setting now comes with a searchable entry to quickly access the enormous list of possible configurations—a welcome change for users who frequently switch between different arcade systems.

Additionally, this release brings support for importing Commodore 64 ROMs, which is bound to excite fans of classic home computer titles.

Finally, for those who manage collections purchased through GOG and Itch.io, Lutris now automatically retrieves the release year of each title.
