KDE Gear 24.08.2 Apps Collection Rolls Out, Here’s What’s New

The KDE Gear 24.08.1 apps collection is now available for download, with key improvements to the Dolphin, Kate, and Konsole apps.

Almost a month after its previous 24.08.1 release, KDE has rolled out the latest version of its app collection, KDE Gear 24.08.2, with a focus on bug fixes and updated translations.

Among the notable updates in this release:

  • Dolphin: The file manager has been improved to ignore trailing slashes when comparing place URLs, making navigation more intuitive.
  • Kate: The text editor now properly restores tabs and views of untitled documents during session recovery, addressing several bugs.
  • Konsole: The terminal emulator received a fix for a crash when sending OSC 4 (RGB) color commands outside the 256 range.

Additionally, A few more improvements worth highlighting include:

  • Kdenlive, the video editor, received a slew of fixes, from improving title producer updates to addressing several crashes that occurred during specific editing operations, enhancing its overall stability and usability.
  • Elisa, the music player, has fixed an issue where tracks without metadata were not playing correctly, making it more dependable for your music library.
  • KAlarm has fixed a failure to play audio files using libVLC on some systems, ensuring alarms work as intended for reminders and tasks.
