Immich 1.124 Brings Tagging, Fixes, and Enhancements

Immich 1.122, a self-hosted photo and video backup solution, rolls out with instant tag creation, folder asset actions, and critical bug fixes.

After a well-deserved break, the Immich team is back with the new v1.124 release, bringing along noteworthy enhancements, polished functionalities, and improved stability.

One of the new, most exciting features is the ability to create tags directly from the “Tag assets” model. In other words, you can now easily tag your content exactly the way you want, right when you need it—no extra fuss.

Another improvement involves multi-select actions in the folder view. In this release, you will find a range of common actions such as download, change date, change location, archive, delete, and refresh thumbnails/videos/metadata—all accessible by selecting multiple assets in a given folder.

Moreover, the official Immich documentation has undergone a round of updates to provide clearer guidance for both new and experienced users. Notably, the roadmap has been revised to reflect changes in development milestones, moving the stable release milestone to early 2025.

On the bug fixes side, Immich 1.124 fixes a subtle issue that impacted the loading of reverse geocoding data. Previously, if the database container crashed at a precise moment, the geodata import process could fail silently.

Now, users no longer have to worry about missing city, state, or country information for their media. However, anyone affected by this bug may want to re-run metadata extraction to ensure all location information is accurately recorded.

Alongside those mentioned above, the new release includes a variety of features, enhancements, and fixes, such as:

  • “Set as featured” option for specific assets.
  • Selection interactions within the folder view for more efficient bulk operations.
  • Ability to force viewing original videos on mobile.
  • Add-to-album shortcut and generic menu option shortcuts, speeding up common tasks.
  • Additional timeout safeguards for reading video files.
  • A swipe-down feature that reveals a slideshow control bar on mobile.
  • Improved duplicate detection and suggestions.
