OBS Studio 32.2 is now available as the latest stable version of the popular open-source application for video recording and live streaming. The most noticeable change is the new Add Source dialog. OBS Studio replaced the previous dropdown menu with a dedicated window that presents available source types more clearly.
Plugins can also provide custom icons for newly added source types, allowing third-party sources to integrate more naturally into the redesigned interface. In addition, the frames-per-second selector has received usability improvements, although the developers have not provided extensive details about the revised behavior.
Another important addition is dynamic bitrate support for multitrack video, which can now adjust the stream when network conditions deteriorate, preventing the connection from becoming unstable or dropping frames. Plus, OBS Studio 32.2 adds a filter for composing SDR content into HDR.
On top of that, the Image Slide Show source now recognizes WebP images when an entire directory is added. Previously, users working with WebP collections might have needed to convert the files or add them by another method. The release also adds copy-and-paste functions to the application’s frontend API, giving plugin developers more options for integrating with OBS Studio.
Several smaller interface and behavior changes are included. New capture devices now use a fallback frame rate by default, the Audio Mixer state stays synchronized when settings change through WebSockets or plugins, and OpenGL performance has slightly improved on lower-end systems.
Linux users receive two particularly relevant fixes. OBS Studio has resolved an issue that could cause PipeWire capture to fail on systems using NVIDIA graphics hardware. PipeWire is commonly used by OBS Studio for screen and window capture under Wayland, so this fix should help affected users who were unable to start a capture correctly.
The release also restores VAAPI AV1 encoding when streaming via WHIP. VAAPI provides hardware-accelerated video encoding on supported Linux graphics hardware, while WHIP is a WebRTC-based streaming protocol. The previous issue prevented this particular combination from working correctly.
Finally, OBS Studio 32.2 fixes NVENC selecting an incorrect bitrate when operating in CQVBR mode. Other resolved issues include black output from Display Capture after certain duplicator failures, virtual camera reset failures, source toolbar buttons becoming unresponsive after a source was dragged into a group, and several possible crashes during shutdown, settings changes, or video-device reconnection.
