OBS Studio, a widely-adopted free and open-source streaming and recording software, has just received its latest patch fix update, version 31.1.2, addressing several critical bugs introduced in the recent 31.1 and 31.1.1 versions.
One of the standout fixes targets a freeze issue on Linux that occurred when using PipeWire capture with explicit sync, causing unexpected application hangs – now resolved.
Additionally, a bug that caused Video Capture Devices on Linux to stop capturing video unexpectedly has now been addressed, restoring consistent video feed performance for users who utilize webcams and other capture hardware.
Moreover, video filters applied during PipeWire capture, which previously caused undesirable gamma shifts—leading to color distortions—have been fixed by reverting a prior fix that introduced this side effect. While this means the white-tinted capture problem in 10-bit or 16-bit color formats will temporarily return, the team prioritized eliminating the gamma shift.
Beyond Linux-specific fixes, OBS Studio 31.1.2 also resolves a few other issues, such as the Multitrack Video option improperly setting the maximum video tracks to 10 when “Auto” is selected, issues with hardware acceleration for Browser Sources in the Flatpak version, and cosmetic glitches, including incorrectly styled progress bars and scrollbar spacing.
Finally, a critical fix restores Decklink Output functionality, which had stopped working in recent versions—necessary for users relying on Blackmagic Design hardware.
